Taurus G4 Toro - Taurus has released what may be the most affordable 9mm pistol on the market to date. Taurus GX4 with SIG P365; It's the company's answer to similar pistols like the Springfield Hellcat and Ruger MAX-9. I was sent the Taurus GX4 pistol a little over a month before it was officially introduced online, to run the gun. Come on in and see how much value this brand new pistol has. So today I'm going to share my thoughts on the new holster and hopefully give you a good idea if this is a viable option to add to your concealed carry rotation.
As far as I can tell, Taurus is trying to move away from some of its old habits, including shipping its pistols in cardboard boxes. I don't usually keep my pistols in their original cases, but some people like to keep them organized and take their guns to the range. The GX4 has two 11-round magazines; One such plastic case comes with a larger turntable and a GX4 manual.

I immediately noticed that the GX4 was a new animal compared to their previous carry guns like the G2C and G3C. The design of the pistol is completely different compared to previous Taurus pistol models, with an entirely new trigger design and lack of a manual safety, which Taurus is proud of. As with most modern pistols, The GX4 features serrated front slides and a skateboard deck-like grip. The gun has memory pads that are molded into both sides of the frame.

One feature that carries over from the G3C pistol to the GX4 is the front of the pistol. This bevel makes holstering the gun smoother. Included sights include a steel front sight with a white dot and a black stripe on the rear. I would have liked the Taurus to take this option or have 3 dot white sights or Tritium night sights as an option. But the GX4 is said to be compatible with aftermarket night sights.
After playing with the gun for a few days before coming to the range. Can't wait to get some bullets out. In my dry shooting experience, I noticed that the new trigger developed by Taurus for the GX4 is absolutely phenomenal. This is not meant to be a competitive initiative; But it's one of the best small pistol triggers I've come across. Whatever Taurus did with the GX4 trigger; They should do that with their future striker-fired semi-auto pistols.
The intake is very minimal at about a quarter of an inch and there is only a slight squeal before coming to a clean break with no perceptible travel. Once the bullet drops, the tactical reset is just a hair over an eighth of an inch until it reaches a good tactical reset. In home testing, I found the button weight to be about 4 pounds.
I found the grip texture exactly where I wanted it. Not overly aggressive, though. It didn't even exist. Wearing it in my standard belly strap setup showed no signs of rubbing or chafing the skin, and the nitrous gas held up well for daily holster insertion/removal, including both the belly strap and the LAG tactical backpack.
Review: Taurus Gx4 Micro Compact Pistol
I fed the GX4 a mix of recovered ammo and a pack of ammo from my "mystery box". The mystery box is mostly factory bullet boxes, which are unusual for me. The gun runs fine with all ammo, and even after firing a few rounds with +P ammo left in the magazine, everything still functions as it should. In the past there have been magazines that cannot hold Federal HST 147g bullets in full magazines. But out of the 11 Mec-Gar magazines they put out, they fit the GX4.
Taurus offers 13 magazines that will run in the GX4 and I really want to try them out with the gun at the range. My hands aren't huge, but I found my dog gripped the gun when I was holding it. I assume the 13 magazine has some sort of extension which I believe will help with better accuracy for subsequent shots.
I really like the Taurus GX4. Taurus proved here that it doesn't have to be just because the gun is cheap.
Everything from the new magazines to the vastly improved new trigger is a huge plus in my book when it comes to this type of gun. Some of the things I would have liked to have seen offered were the factory night vision options; Includes an optic cutout (which I think will be a few months after initial release) and an extra rail.

Not everyone uses these things, but I know quite a few people who put lights and optics on their carry guns. Overall, the Taurus GX4 is a good addition to the subcompact 9mm market and the most affordable pistol on the list unless you're looking for the extra features listed above. In general, The Taurus GX4 should make a great concealed carry pistol for anyone looking to get solid ammunition without breaking the bank.
